i object to kitten heels

sergio rossi 1

I was quite mortified-ish to read a write up in the January issue of Harper's Bazaar about the return of the kitten heel. They even had an image of a Manolo Blahnik kitten heel in support of this. I won’t have it. Even if Michelle Obama (who I love) is wearing them, I refuse to give up the stiff calves and aching feet of a platform or stiletto for the in between lady like demureness of a kitten heel.

Perhaps I am an extremist, but I only believe in very flat or very high – nothing in between.
Some people reading this, who might know me personally, might find this statement a paradox of sorts because I am constantly complaining about how I don’t want to tower over people, which is a semi-truth. This does not however prevent me from speaking out against the nondescript kitten heel and its middle road place in my world of shoes.

One can not ignore the aesthetic of the Roger Vivier stiletto, I even wrote a paper on the history of the stiletto heel for an art history essay (I really was reaching with that one). Think about it, the prettiest of all the shoes in the store is always the skyscraper Louboutin’s, Jimmy Choo’s or Aldos. I have never had a kitten heel or a ballet pump (mind you) make me gasp and go “Oh My Gaaawd!”

When I was younger I used to always fantasize about the day I would be able to wear my mother’s stiletto heels, because those were always the prettiest shoes - the ones that transformed mom into a gorgeous statuesque woman with fantastic style in my little eyes. I never ever used to fantasize about wearing her kitten heels, because the stiletto or platform heel is almost always a work of art. A gorgeous accessory to transform even the most dressed down ensemble into something that could get a second look. Very high and excruciatingly painful, they are really meant to be works of art that sit at the end of your feet whilst you're perched on a bar stool making a statement. A statement that I just don't believe I could make in a pair of dainty kitty heels.

the pressure is on..."anonymous said..."

"I like your blog, I think you should write more incisive commentary on things your interested in as opposed to treating it as a diary. a diary is a diary, and with such a platform to speak on issues and potentially have it be read by the world at large, i thin that this should be more than your internal workings but a reflection of your intellect and opinions on matters of interest. for example, i see you went to fashion week- how were the shows, designers, production, clothes etc? you look qualified to speak on that so why not express your thoughts and have more writing and less personal matter. let this blog have a "thithi ring" a voice which people can tune into and hear you ideas on broader subjects than your personal matters. lets hear you comment on events, trends, new concepts, design, art etc. maybe if you are worried about the aesthetic of lots of writing (just as bad as lots of pictures) you can have a picture, some text and a continue tab where your 20 line mini articles on things will roll out if you press continue. Just a suggestion. Diary blogs are mostly for plebs/celebs and with twitter out there we already know whats in people's heads every second. so lets see more intellectual and well thought out fresh ideas on things from you, everytime i log on to your page i see the beginnings of such but the posts are just getting hot but not yet there! step it up girlfriend, its your forum, your voice. not your private diary. wow us. blow us away. whats new?!fan"

omg

So I just deleted a comment from some anonymous person saying "Yes you do need the gym. Try lipo and a facelift if you can procure the funds. Tsk Tsk" in response to my comment "Look at my fat arms I need to go to gym" Lol. In response to that anonymous comment (which I deleted cos I don't like that kinda energy and cos if you gonna say something ugly, don't be anonymous- yes...that was a challenge), anyways, in response to that comment, to borrow a few words from Cher in Clueless: "that was way harsh Ty." Lol

So the picture has nothing to do with the blog entry, but I've been told that people like pictures and I like this picture of myself so we all win.

I'm having a tough time getting into what should be a phucking cool year for me. I think it's because all the things (it's actually just the one thing, however for the purposes of my trying to be discreet, I will refer to the one thing in plural) I wish could stay the same are going to change... Will it end or will it try to make it through kilometres and flights?

Okay, enough emo talk. I have recently discovered that people I know actually read my blog, so hence the me trying to be discreet approach, but I'm not very good at that. I think, what's happened here is that a blog that was meant to be a freelance designer's portfolio has become her diary... it's just a hunch, I could be wrong, but I think I'm right. In her defense though, she hasn't had time to do freelance design work because she goes out too much and sometimes drinks too much and she likes watching series in one go and she has FOMO people and at 25 she should have it under control...but alas she does not. That was way too many "and's" in that sentence, but this isn't Hemingway people- so I don't really care.

Anyways, this was just one of those, I need to talk about how lost I feel when it comes to "those things" (subtitle: that thing) in my life and how I hate that I don't know what's going to happen, but more than hating it, I'm just scared. I don't want to suffer from heartburn
