weekends spent shopping

stuff 4

It seems that all I do and all I blog about is shopping. I am starting to think that I might have a problem that I need to address. I do, however have to say in the same breath that I am a total bargain shopper and when I buy something it is hardly ever a spontaneous purchase and I more so than often actually need the thing that I'm buying. Oh my word, I sound like I'm trying to justify my nasty addiction...

The thing is I don't consider excursions to shopping events like 'Stuff That's Nice' in the same category as regular shopping trips to a mall or a store. These targeted events bring out a certain kind of shopper and I always find myself networking or meeting new shopping buddies at these kinds of events.

As promised there was champagne and yummy goodies to indulge in as you shopped!

This is what I bought and I needed all of the above.
I needed a woven belt and earrings
- because all my earrings are lonely singles at the moment.
I didn't really need the bag, but a girl can never have enough sling bags
and the scarf was actually just an investment...

two things i loved this week

This week has been a tough one for me and I got through it because of two things. The first being my purchase of the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar and the issue 67 of V Magazine and the second being my lunch on Sunday afternoon at The Birdcage with two special people.
harpers and V
Harper’s Bazaar is one of my favourite magazines. No, I lie. It is my favourite magazine because I can honestly say that I find every page engaging and literally read the magazine from cover to cover. This might come as a surprise to some people, because I am pretty sure I look and seem like a Vogue girl (Vogue UK not US – which I find frightfully boring), but nope… I am a Harper’s Bazaar girl. If someone at Harper’s in the UK responded to my millions of emails with a job offer as an intern, I would leave it all behind to work at Harper’s Bazaar.
v with lady gaga
Issue 67 of V Magazine is the New York issue and I bought the one with artist Marina Abramovic who performed a 700 hour silent opera at MoMA. The other cover also shot by Mario Testino features the girl who V Magazine reckons put the New back in New York – Lady Gaga and the amazing Marc Jacobs. V Magazine is just one of those magazines that I buy because it is amazing. Cover to cover the magazine features experimental and risqué fashion editorial shoots and this New York issue made me want to jump on a plane and somehow someway get myself involved in the coolness and dynamism of a city like New York. I’m having a passport itch… My passport needs new Visa’s...

Then this Sunday I had lunch at The Birdcage on Jan Smuts with my bf and sister... It was a nice day out for a little bit in between all the rain. The reason why this was one of the two things that I loved this week is because my sister is really wise and gives good sound advice and she's young... I needed to hear alot of what she said today.

a behind the scenes kinda girl in front of the camera

I seem to be standing in front of the camera a lot these days...
And it isn't something I’m really used to or into, because I am (even though some people don’t believe me) a behind the scenes kind of girl. I don’t consider myself photogenic at all and seem to get really tense when a camera is put in front of me, because I actually think my smile is too big. And I am addicted to being the facilitator of a process rather than an element in the process. Hello? Big thoughts there Thithi!

As nerve wracking as it is for me to stand in front of a lens, it was all for a good cause and a good laugh...

Last week I was invited by the lovely Mili to be one of the models in her Pulchritude (finally, learning to spell that name without looking it up!) Lookbook. I said ‘yes’ because it was Mili asking and also because I am generally a ‘yes girl’ (saying ‘no’ to your friends sucks). Plus I had nothing to do and I really wanted to be one of the first people to get a sneak preview at all the summer stock she’ll be carrying from her designers.

The shoot was alot of fun because of the other girlies who were there. I love being around girls who love clothes as much as I do.

How cute is Eve in this Doreen Southwood number?

Then yesterday, I had the pleasure of doing a shoot with one of my bff’s Vie for Glamour Magazine! The entire place was filled with girls gushing over all the clothes , shoes and accessories and it was really nice to work with the team from Glamour because they’re just amazing. Mel is literally one of my favourite people in the world, because she’s so genuine and fantastic, and Glamour’s fashion editor, Bronwyn Day (who I met for the first time yesterday) is amazing and gorgeous and a mom and like superwoman.

I loved my Fifties housewives look and I have decided that I’m going to just embrace my inner “Charlotte” because in all honesty the styling was completely me.

who loves missibaba bags? me!

missibaba2
I love Missibaba bags! So much so, that my gorgeous yellow “baby bow” sling bag is starting to look like it has been passed down from generation to generation.
I love that they are locally made and that the design aesthetic is unique, beautiful, experimental and recognizable. Once you have seen a Missibaba bag, you remember what it looks like; the name sticks in your head and rolls off the tongue quite nicely.

For this reason and because I actually can’t imagine my shoulder unadorned with these bags, I have decided that I deserve a little bit of spring time retail therapy… and because I am in a total body transition (my body is getting ready for summer) an accessory will do just fine thank you.

Whilst doing my regular morning internet surfing session: where I open up millions of tabs and look at fashion blogs, online shopping websites and daydream in the morning about my new wardrobe, I came across Missibaba’s new Spring Summer 2010 collection and in particular the saddle bag (below)!

I’m not a cowboy kinda girl, but when I saw the nude satchel with brown piping and leather strap detail finished off with the blue leather ornamentation I have decided that I could definitely “yee-ha” for this bag! (That was lame and cheesy ... and I know it... so ssshhh!)
I love this bag, because it's a sling bag and it reminds me of an old Hollywood western, smoky saloons and blowing tumbleweeds...
You won't catch me dead in a pair of cowboy boots, but I feel like this bag could be the start of a new look for summer...

safw - christopher strong

christopher strong

Inspired by the Elle New Talent theme: optimism, my take on fashion week will be an inspired one. I am only going to write about the collections that I loved from start to finish with every part of my being. There is no need to review the collections I wasn’t moved by, because well… let’s face it; I’m not an expert. I am just a girl who loves a gorgeous garment and a sick pair of shoes. I am sure that it has already become apparent that I am a Christopher Strong fan and that I am slightly obsessed with and in love with the designer behind Christopher Strong - Olive du Plessis. On so many occasions when I ran into her between shows I had to stop myself from being a totally groupie and gushing at her. In fact, the one time I caught myself mid-frantic wave as she walked past completely flushed with excitement that she even acknowledged me. Psychotic right? I know…
my notebook
Anyways, so I took a picture of my notebook so that you could get an idea of the types of feelings the Christopher Strong collection elicited in me. I have written things like “I am in love” and “ that skirt is fucking beautiful.”

The collection was just immaculate. Yes. That is the word to describe the collection because in order for something to be immaculate it needs to be faultless and perfect. The garments were beautiful, modern, detailed and sexy. I want to be the Christopher Strong woman. That’s who I want to be.
Honestly speaking, I am floored by Christopher Strong and just looking forward to filling my entire wardrobe with their winter collection.

Well done Olive and Michael… You make me happy!!
