in related news...pulchritude's last sale for 2010

Just in! In my inbox!
Pulchritude's last sale for 2010 is happening from the 9th December to the 12th December at one of my favourite places to nom nom nom - Trabella! And the excitement continues, with a clothing experience line up that includes menswear from Simon Deporres and David West. Oh My! The silly shopping season has begun!

simon deporres presents sold out sundays images by Anelisa Mangcu

A couple of weeks ago the boys from Simon Deporres had a sale at Max Mogale's studio in Cape Town. Obviously I wasn't there, but I got a look at the pictures on Facebook shot by my lovely cousin Anelisa Mangcu and wished I was there. I love menswear, the location looks as if it was very cool and I'm so proud of Mpilo and Simon. Good work boys!

shoot diaries - 24.11.2010

I bet you didn't believe me when I said we are shooting everyday!
Today we shot a sickenly fashionable woman for our March issue of Dossier. Her wardrobe and apartment are to die for and she owns a pair of the Christian Louboutin studded brogues that have consumed my being since I saw them. I have never wished to be anyone's daughter so badly (sorry mum), just so I could have access to the beautiful things in her wardrobe.
My apologies for the not so good quality images - I left my camera at home... silly me!

Let us have a moment for the Christian Louboutin brogues and the Jimmy Choo booties with the gold, black and white geometric heel...
You can't really see it in the image, but this fragrance - A Taste Of Heaven by Kilian  - had the most amazing and gorgeous packaging I have seen in ages. I exclaimed when I saw it that I would never - like those Louboutin's use it - it would literally be in my home for display purposes.

little monday soiree

Monday’s are often such a drag. Getting into them is a drag and getting out of them is even more of a drag, as the realisation that you have an entire week of hard work and commitments hits you.

This Monday however, after a hectic day of shooting, packing and lugging around stock for returns, I had something to look forward to as I made my way to The Street in Greenside for the Little Monday Soiree hosted by Tamara Dey from Flash Republic.

I arrived at The Street, a creative, London shopping culture inspired space stocking some of the freshest street fashion brands like Cheap Monday and RVCA as well as bespoke designers like jewellery designer Joanna Claire, and immediately ran into the lovely Elma Smit from MK and 5FM and Tamara Dey looking through the rails of clothing.

And that right there set the tone for the evening for me. An intimate, fun and gentle way to end a Monday, shopping for some - window shopping for me- whilst listening to the new Flash Republic album “Killer Moves” and being treated to a live exclusive performance by Tamara herself.

shoot diaries - 22.11.2010

The hard work has begun. I have literally been shooting back to back for The Dossier Collective's first two issues of Voila! Magazine and I have to be honest and say that I am surprised that I'm still standing. Yesterday evening someone asked me when I have time to source and do returns? My response was "I don't have the time, I just make the time." Five minutes in my world and friendly chats are a thing of the past. Man! I wish I had a driver!

simon deporres presents sold out sundays

Cape Town is so lucky sometimes...
I know its menswear but I would still love to have shown up and taken a browse through the rails of Simon Deporres stock. I can't wait till Dossier is shooting  menswear fashion editorial because as much as I love beautiful dresses and swing skirts, I have this serious love and adoration for menswear.

inspired by: twenty two...

This is going to be a slightly emo blog post because it has to do with dreams and aspirations and the kinds of people who follow them. It has to do with focus and goals and what it takes to achieve what it is that you want out of life.

Last week Sunday one of my bestfriend's Vie opened the doors to her new store Twenty Two in the very cool and progressive 70 Juta in Braamfontein. A product of many late nights, trips to Cape Town and back, hours spent doing odd jobs that weren't necessarily what she wanted to be doing at the time and dealing with the dark reality that her investor had pulled out: this store is a testament to the fact that you can actually do and achieve something if you put your mind to it.

I am so proud of my friend. She literally made the decision and went for it. Even with obstacles in her way that I feel could have crippled me, she chose to wake up everyday and do what needed to be done to make her dream come to fruition.

It's tough to be a dreamer and imagine more potential for yourself out of life, because you need to give "fear" the middle finger. I am learning to do that. I know that I have spent a lot of time living in mediocrity and staying in the safe zone, allowing people to walk over me and not demand what I deserve. So my inspiration for today and this year is Twenty Two and its owner Vuyiswa Mutshekwane.

When you have a moment, pop into the store. It is a beautiful space with vintage and modern influences. The clothing is unique and special, with designers such as Cape Town based Selfi, Mili Jo, Take Care, Sitting Pretty, Skeet and Johannesburg based Tee and Whiskey. Sitting between these designer rails are also rails of vintage finds from Nola Williams from Stuff That's Nice, Maria a regular at Deerhunter's Junksale and Vie's own vintage treasures.

There is something for everyone, so to speak, with a limited range of menswear available in the store. A concept store with a bespoke quality, Twenty Two is not only a life inspiration, but also a fashion one.

i just had to share how happy i am!

Okay, so I did announce it, but in case you missed it, I have been given the honour and wonderful pressure filled job of working as the fashion editor for The Dossier Collective (like us on facebook!)
I can't really describe what it is I am going through in terms of emotions. I am nervous and excited. I feel pressured and like somehow a mistake was made, but I feel like I was meant for this.
My days are now spent looking through magazines and blogs for a reason and purpose, other than to make me feel some sort of satisfaction and glee.

It has been a while since I have felt this excited about something. I mean don't get me wrong... I love doing graphic design work- but only for cool clients who like my stuff...Hehe. And I love doing fashion pr and talking to the media, because I do understand what they want because I have worked in the media, plus there is this feeling I can't describe when you get a client coverage and they say "thank you" that I am sort of addicted to. I enjoy working as a producer, because I have a producer's mind and logic so to speak. I can't help it, but getting sh*t done and making sure that other people get sh*t done is in my nature.
However, there is nothing in this world that gets me out of bed faster than a fashion shoot, whether it be stills of main fashion editorial. I am in love with taping shoes, steaming clothes, hanging all the garments on the rail and giving the rail a once over. Staying up late, mulling over whether the suede shoes really do work and worrying whether I have enough accessories or advertisers clothes in my shoot.

I found these images today that were shot for Naag Magazine. They make me want to source an entire rail of clothing and shoes and accessories asap, get a model on board and style amazing beautiful editorial.

two things i loved this week

My sister is really random at the best of times, but her randomness is filled with wisdom that I can't even begin to wrap my brain around. She sent me this mail last night I guess and I just saw it.
Lessons in life...

Then I love Garance Doré's blog and I was having another general internet surfing day and saw this image again and loved it again. So much so that it needed to be one of the things I love this week...

spence

Press releases and snippets of information like this bring such joy to my heart!
I saw that Andrew the coolest guy ever from WE-ARE-AWESOME had posted this link on facebook and he shot the images! And then... I got a pressy press release from Carey Townsend about Spence.
First, let's start with the fact that I love the way that the website looks, (I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm really a minimalist and gentle sensibility kinda girl...)
Then we have to progress with the fact that Spence is home to one of my favourite South African designers Christopher Strong and my favourite accessories and just gorgeous things brand Missibaba.

But wait Thithi! You haven't told us what Spence is you exclaim! That is correct and I am sorry, I was just very excited at how amazing this online shopping platform is. Created by Diana Spicer, this online fashion store showcases the best local and international design talent and offers both womenswear and menswear.

Currently, the platform is home to Christopher Strong (Whoop! Whoop!), Missibaba (another Whoop!), Selfi (give me a dress!) Adrian Kuiters (Oh I wish my boyfriend dressed like this), Margot Moyneux (what am I going to do without those scallop shorts?), Steffany Roup (an anchor necklace for my neck please) and Take Care (I would love a sheer vest for summer if you will).

Okay, enough blogging for the day... I need to work so I can buy. There is nothing on this website that I wouldn't wear. I am in love.

bullet magazine

The internet is an evil evil place that can lure you into spending hours of your day looking at pretty pictures and reading very cool blogs or stumbling across interestingly cool magazines like "Bullet Magazine." This find, however wasn't one of those discovered via an organic click to the next page, click on this link to see more type journeys, but rather recommended via facebook by coolness Sanche Frolich.

From what I understand, Bullet Magazine's is a fashion forward, content forward magazine that people can access via digital, print, mobile etc and soon the so-called amazing i-Pad. They use the term "transmedia" which I love as a word... The magazine is run by some obviously very cool 20-somethings who just seem to feature cool sh*t and cool people. Check out the magazine online the print version is apparently hitting the newsstands in November.

Look at this amazingly cool contents page... I love multi-media exectutions

Cindy Crawford graces the maagzine's cover and has and editorial in the magazine. Will this woman ever age? Look how amazing she looks! It's unnatural

Any magazine that does this to little Abigail Breslin is cool as hell

I'm a huge Elizabeth Banks fan she is hilarious and I love girls who can be funny.

young&restless

I love South Africa, but sometimes I wish for the purposes of my shopping habit and love of all things beautiful, different, creative and just the sh*t, that I lived in Europe or somewhere in Asia...

My inbox got a lovely email from the people at young&restless - a collaborative line designed mainly by Ashburn Eng for Singaporean label max.tan. I have no idea, how or why they sent me an email, but the contents were lovely and made me feel like I need to get on a plane and go shopping!

Questions you might have to ask regarding this post...

Who is Max Tan?

Max.Tan is a Singaporean fashion label with an androgynous and avant-garde aesthetic. The work of Max.Tan is sober, simplistic, but with a twist and altered proportions to create garments with interesting silhouettes and geometry. All the things I like...

Who is Ashburn Eng?

Ashburn Eng is a fashion stylist and creative director of Test Shoot Gallery. Ashburn Eng’s works received due recognition when he was the recipient of the two top prizes at the Iconique Societás Awards in 2009 for Best Fashion Stylist and Overall Winner.

How beautiful is the Autumn / Winter Ritual collection? It's dark, yet so beautiful at the same time... I mean just look at the campaign images above... I love it.

So, it has terribly difficult for me to keep this news under the wraps, but seeing as I'll be sending out briefs next week, thought I could let the big fat fabulous cat out of the bag!

voila

An exciting new publication, published by The Dossier Collective - VOILA! Magazine, will hit the streets in January 2011.The first edition of VOILA! will be handed to fashion-adoring South African shoppers in malls at the end of January and guess who'll be the fashion editor? I give you three guesses...
