random shi* I learnt this year

I had some anonymous person basically tell me that my blog isn't a diary and I concur, but I have to take a moment to share what I learnt in 2010...

1.It is true that... LYING IS THE MOST FUN A GIRL CAN HAVE WITHOUT TAKING HER CLOTHES OFF... BUT IT'S BETTER IF YOU DO (Alice - Closer)
2.ONLINE SHOPPING feels like someone sent you a gift for no random reason - other than you spent a mini fortune on that gift - hence the danger in it... but also the fun.
3.MY HIPS aren't actually as big as I thought they were.
4.PEOPLE WHO DRESS BADLY upset me more than people who wear fur... It's a terrible thing to say, but it's true I want to start a PETA for people who dress badly.
5.Working IN FASHION makes me feel stupid sometimes.
6.I LOVE REALITY TV.
7.Not having a BLACKBERRY would kill me. Who the hell wants to reply to their emails at their actual computer?
8.I BITCH about the iPAD and how wack it is, but I want one and I think I might just get one.
9.When it comes to men and women, the notion of FOREVER in this day and age seems impossible and archaic.
10.YET, I still believe in the kind of love that Noah and Ally have in THE NOTEBOOK because I'm such a freakin girl.

solestruck = soleshocked

I have three very legitimate reasons to fear online shopping...
1. what if it doesn't fit properly?
2. what if I don't like the way the fabric feels? It looks like it feels nice, but what if I don't like it?
3. what if it isn't what I ordered?

My last and third fear has been realised. I got my Jeffrey Campbell boots today from Solestruck and they weren't what I ordered. I got these Cerulean Blue Pixie Booties instead from Jeffrey Campbell.
I don't hate them, in fact after staring at them for the past three hours, I finally tried them on and they aren't that bad... I actually quite like them. Still... I emailed Solestruck completely distraught and within two hours the lovely Erin from Solestruck sent me an email apologising for the faux pas and letting me know that she'll be sending my pair of Meeker booties asap and that I am more than welcome to keep the Pixie booties. How's that for good service?

solestruck

The best way to describe my style, in general - which I hate doing - would be contemporary vintage. I love blouses, old dresses, jerseys from the 80s, the 1950s and swing skirts and I make them my own by mixing them with contemporary bold pieces with a graphic and futuristic qualities. I don’t really like anything dainty or flat - methinks I should have been born in Dallas, Texas.

sneaker fetish

I love shoes, because they never really disappoint by not zipping or buttoning up. Shoes never tell you that you've gained weight after the holidays. They're like dogs, which is why I love all shoes, sneakers included. My favourite sneakers are Air Max's because I like to look at my ankles. Although I am having a very intense love affair with my royal blue Blazers.

The internet can be a very cruel place. I have literally spent 3 hours surfing the net and losing myself in other people's blogs, clicking on links and further losing myself in those sites. Whilst looking through one of my new favourite blogs Big eyes, Little Soles I saw a preview post on some of what NSW is doing for spring 2011. I fell in love immediately and my mission now is to get my hands on the Nike Air Max 1 ND yellow. All I can do now is pray that they drop in South Africa. That's all I can do now - pray.

can't wait to see this movie - black swan

Natalie Portman is my favourite actress. Mila Kunis was in an Aerosmith video... And Vincent Cassel is just coolness in a dark sort of way. I can't wait

lots of pretty dresses

There are loads of pretty dresses in season 4 of Gossip Girl: like this beautiful beaded lace dress with scallop neckline detail from Zuhair Murad worn by Serena. The other dress that had me breathless was the red Oscar de la Renta gown Blair wore in Paris. Imagine being able to wear these kinds of gowns - artworks if you will - for work.

why fashion?

I love sheer delicate blouses with floral cut-outs on me and white crochet jumpsuits on my friend Vie. I love floral patterned fishnets worn with dark floral mini-skirts, white vests and oversized cardigans on my sister Lumka, shoulder pads and headwraps on my sister Zarina and tapered pants worn with heels on my friend Nicole.

I love coming home after buying those amazing nude heels from Aldo I’ve been lusting after, putting them on and dancing in front of the mirror. I love playing with the Photo Booth application on my laptop and taking snapshots of myself pouting with my M.A.C Rebel lip colour on and reminiscing on the journey I went through to find it after seeing Rihanna wearing a similar colour.

I love thrift store treasure hunts for the perfect leather sling bag and belt buckles that would give modern day statement belts a run for their money. I love my shoes lined up against my bedroom wall because there isn’t enough space in my wardrobe.

I love lying on my stomach surrounded by magazines, before my friends come over to get dressed for a night out, whilst deciding if I want to be Blair or Serena, Carrie or Samantha or Juliet Draper or Mia Mason for the night.

I love walking into a party wearing an oversized batwing blouse from Animale, a black leather skirt, back seam stockings and grey platform heels. I love seeing someone wearing something phenomenal and knowing that only they could have pulled it off, taking a photo of them, and thinking about what I’m going to write underneath their photo when I upload the blog post.

I love post mortems on a night out. Painful feet. Fashion moments. Clothes piled on my bed when I get home. I love getting dressed.

olivia palermo might be a total beyatch on 'the city', but there's no denying she's hot

Love her or hate her Olivia Palermo is 'it' girl material. The famous party photographer Patrick McMullan was the first to discover Olivia’s charm, style and beauty and started taking her photos at social events about town. Since then she has starred in a popular reality TV series about the fashion industry - The City - and has appeared in numerous international magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, and InStyle, among many others. Now Olivia and boyfriend German model Johannes Huebl are featured in the new Mango winter catalogue.

travel lust... missibaba's seraphine sandals

I'm going to Namibia pretty soon on holiday and I wish I had these Seraphine sandals from Missibaba in coral and cherry striped leather with navy hand embroidered stitching to wear whilst on my much deserved break. xx

how do you get changed? by jessica sutherland

Last night Lisof held their 17th annual Fashion Show and Student Exhibition at the Sandton Convention Centre.  I don't have pictures, because I stupidly took a camera with a flat battery and I didn't feel like taking photos on my BlackBerry, but I feel that it is my duty to blog about my new favourite designer: Jessica Sutherland and how incredibly talented she is.

I wish I had pictures to show you how talented this girl is. Her collection titled "How do you get changed?" was everything I love - simple and beautiful, yet layered and complex.  A well thought through collection made up of a range of clothing that could be worn in different ways by undoing, unzipping or untying. Coats were transformed into cropped jackets by unzipping a piece of fabric and a simple pair of tapered pants were invigorated with sculptural finesse by undoing a button. There was really a sophistication in her work that surpassed her peers to be quite honest.
Anyways, I'm going to make sure I get myself a piece of her work before she becomes famous and I can't afford it...
