good lawd oscar! these dresses are beautiful

I love the Oscar's. I don't take much interest in any other award show as much as I do the Oscar's. Perhaps it's because it's the last big one, or because it was the one I always imagined winning and giving my acceptance speech to in front of the mirror. But, who cares about all that!
I want to talk about two dresses I won't stop thinking about!
Let's take a moment to talk about Cate Blanchett's artistically beautiful Givenchy gown. I was watching Live From The Red Carpet on E! and I swear when Cate Blanchett appeared on my screen I fell off my couch as I paused the PVR and stood right in front of the television to see the art nouveau inspired work of art in detail. My goodness what a beautiful dress!
Mila Kunis! I love this dress by Elie Saab. It has this mood about it that is very reminiscent of the dress Serena wore in one of the Gossip Girl season 4 episodes by Zuhair Murad. It's detailed and light, easy but complicated and layered.

hearting sa fashion ... with fashion friday's

As the week post Joburg Fashion Week ends; the drama of its logistical faux pas, VIP cordoned off areas, failed PR stunts, air kisses and designer collections; start to become a faint memory. Names that have been rolling off our tongues with effortless ease for the past week go back to their design studios (and the back of our minds), only to be resurrected by one of the million other fashion weeks throughout the year.

With only a few lucky designers managing to remain in the forefront of the fashion world minds, but more importantly in the mind of consumers, as a result of their relative retail success and consummate support from the press, one has to wonder after all the drinks, canapĂ©’s, location fee negotiations, model fees, fabric and time spent, does fashion week, any fashion week in this country have any relevance? Who gets the most out of it? Are the designer’s businesses showing some sort of growth as a direct result of fashion week? Or, have we, as a copy-cat society decided that the western world’s model, is the only way forward and that for a designer to have any sort of repute they need to show at a ‘fashion week?’

I don’t know the answer, I’m just asking the question (don’t you just hate those people?), but I am on an expedition to find out. I have sent out some emails to some designers to ask for their feedback, because they are after all the people who should come out on top at the end of it all right?

However, whilst I wait for those answers, I do have faith in the growth of and the faith that South African consumers have in the South African fashion industry, when I see initiatives like: #WearSouthAfricanFriday, promoted tiresomely by Milisuthando Bongela and Fashion Friday’s brought to you by Twenty Two, which starts next week Friday.

A celebration of South African fashion design, art & music, Fashion Friday’s will take place every month and feature not just the amazing designers at Twenty Two, but a host of guest fashion designers from across the country.

Promising to be a wonderful evening, the first Fashion Friday’s also features Capsule’s “Rock Me Again” fashion photography exhibition, where designers Adriaan Kuiters, Blasoen, Christopher Strong, Clive Rundle, Rachel de Mardt, reworked by Stefania Morland, Rosenwerth, Take Care, The Summit and UNkNOWN ave taken on the creative challenge of giving old clothes and discarded fabrics new form and new life.

P.S: Don’t forget to wear something locally designed or produced & show your love for SA fashion!!

need to buy the new w magazine

via kaboommagazine.com

It's no secret I love Black Swan - because I'm a little bit dark and twisted like that, and that Natalie Portman is one of my favourite actresses, but I have always thought something of Miss Mila Kunis ever since 'That 70's Show' and her appearance in Aerosmith's 'Jaded" music video. I also like that she is one of my favourite funny movies ever 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall."
She look amazing in this W Magazine shoot...

styling concepts sample sale!

oops, my bad

Apparently in the comments on the Bellbottoms post I put the incorrect number for Bellbottoms in Pretoria, so some poor soul in Pretoria has been getting phonecalls about a vintage secondhand store...
The correct number is: 012 3332116

voila! profile on the stylishly amazing yasmin furmie

The most inspiring thing about working in magazines or television, or even radio actually is that you get to meet some very cool and inspiring people along the way. From the famous, to the regular civilians, even those just looking for their fifteen minutes of fame, the interaction you have with them always leaves you with some story for you to walk away with and share with people.
In the February issue of Voila! I was given the opportunity to do a piece on Yasmin Furmie. An exceptionally stylish and amazing woman who has become somewhat of a friend to me. Besides meeting Yasmin and her heartbreaking studded Christian Louboutin black and white brogues, I got to write, which I have not done in ages.
Not many people know this about me, but I used to write all the time. In fact I think this is something I had forgotten about myself, until I opened a box of old stuff from high school and found my articles I used to write for the school newspaper, and my little poem published in a student annual. It's funny the pieces of you that disappear as you get older.

voila! liezel van der westhuizen shoot

A couple of months ago I blogged excitedly about how I'd been asked to be fashion editor for Voila! and Dossier Magazine. Alot has changed since then and I am no longer in that position. It's a long story with many different versions, so I certainly won't bore you with them, but rather with some gorgeous images from the February issue of Voila! which will hit the streets this week I am told. Thanks to the lovely garments I was able to source from folks like the talented David Tlale, my favourite designer duo Christopher Strong at Spence,  Forever New, the inimitable Suzaan Heyns and Religion, this shoot turned out to be quite something I think...

i could swear on myself on this product

I have hereditary dark under eye circles, which when partnered with my general affinity for late nights, and my incessant insomnia, means that without make up I generally look like a raccoon, or junkie who could totally fit into the cast of Requiem for a Dream. So, as a result of this I am constantly on the search for amazing concealer and amazing under eye creams.
I don't usually do this (that's what they all say), but seriously, I don't. Nevertheless, I had to share my joy in finding the Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener because it's the closest thing I have found to the mystery total removal of dark under eye circles, that doesn't smell funny or make my sensitive eyes water. Try it if you care.

i couldn't resist posting this...T.I.T.S (two in the shirt) available in SA

So, my name is Thithi, pronounced TT, so you can see how I couldn't resist posting this.
Launched in 2006 T.I.T.S. Brand ( Two In The Shirt ) is a provocative clothing company that uses the female body as the main focus of its designs. Besides the edgy design aesthetic, I like that T.I.T.S supports Breast Cancer Research. Check out the local site - www.twointheshirt.co.za and  the international site - www.twointheshirt.com
