I am not quite sure what to say about Anelisa Mangcu. Not because there isn’t much to say about her, but because she’s brilliant, young, inspirational, beautiful and family. Lees as I call her is so amazing that at her young age she’s achieved more than most people have, but still acts like she hasn’t done enough. It’s that quality that I love about her, because it means she never stops wanting more for herself. Often I want to shake her and say you have done more than you can appreciate: revel in it. But I know it won’t help because she expects excellence from herself. Follow her on Twitter and read her blog Perfectly Tailored, a collaborative project which she works on with Siyabonga Ngwekazi.
Q: What would you like to be good at?
A: Singing. The power of a strong voice is intangible yet it has the most overwhelming impact on people. I sing all day everyday. I just wish I didn’t have people starring at me strangely every time I belt out in song hehehe
Q: What makes you happy?
A: There are so many things and people that make me happy but I think I am going to take the cheesy route this time. My best friend, Noxolo Mafu is one girl who knows how to put a smile on my face at all times. We met in high school and we have been friends ever since. Over the years, we have spent so much time together that our energy and personalities are in sync.
Q: What is your favourite city in the world and why?
A: The last time I went abroad was 6 years ago. I don’t travel as much as I would like to, but I preferred the Islands more than I did the cities. My favourite Island were the Cayman Islands, which consists of three islands, which are Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman located northwest of Jamaica (which I also loved). George Town in Grand Cayman is where I went with my family. It has the most amazing crystal clear beach, the most accommodating folk you will ever meet and the most understated artists.
Q: If you could add anything to your wardrobe what would it be?
A: I really want a pair of Jeffrey Campbell’s. It only makes sense. I only wear heels on special occasions but when I do, it makes a complete difference in how I feel and behave. I love feeling empowered and badass. Yes, there is a Sasha Fierce in all of us.
Q: Do you own anything you absolutely cannot get rid of?
A: My photo albums with all my childhood memories.
