Solo is so dope. Now she’s artistic creative consultant for Puma

I am a Nike girl. Superior product, combined with the fact that they produce my all time favourite sneaker the Air Max 1, it is pretty much impossible to convince me that Nike with its technologically advanced and innovative product developments isn’t the best sportswear brand in the world.
This doesn’t change the fact that I am pretty excited about the work that Solange is doing with Puma’ s Women’s Lifestyle category as acting creative consultant. The singer, songwriter, record producer, model, and general “get long ass box braids” influencer Solange is working closely with Puma on product design as the artistic director for the Girls of Blaze Disc Collection running shoe, as well as on the production of special events and unique content.

The other day, I forwarded my friends an emailer from, with the subject: “It’s nice to be Solange’s friend.” The emailer featured a sponsored story titled: Solange Knowles joins the Puma family. The story featured a photographic shoot that Solange art directed of four up-and-coming “It Girls” from various industries wearing Puma’s Women’s lifestyle collections, and amongst the four girls Solange hand picked, she featured her friend Saada Ahmed of Everyday People fame.

Keeping with the trend of putting on her creative friends, Knowles has also enlisted her friends Darlene and Lizzy Okpo of William Okpo as one of the four up-and-coming designers selected to put their own creative spin on Puma’s Disc Blaze style alongside; Gerlan Marcel of Gerlan Jeans, visual artist, musician, and photographer Hisham Baroocha. The collection, will be available in women’s styles for the first time through this collaboration, hence the name Girls of Blaze Disc Collection and is inspired by the sights and sounds of Brasil.
