05 Aug Run Soweto | Nike Soweto Marathon
I did it. I registered for the 21,1km Nike Soweto Marathon. I put that 0,1km in because I feel like that will be when I am crawling on the ground to the finish line. Just kidding. Not really. I am not sure what makes me think that I can complete a half marathon, but I have registered and recruited my main baes from The Other Girls to do the run on the 2nd of November 2014.
I started training today using some training programme I found on Runners World on how to train for a half marathon in 8 weeks, and let me tell you something, I was not smiling like in the picture above when I finished my run. Having slipped up on general health and fitness this year and putting on some unwanted weight because of this, I figure that I needed some motivation to get myself back into shape and that even though the training programme is designed for 8 weeks, I am going to use it over the approximate 12 weeks I have to get ready for the race to push myself and be super disciplined. Deemed the people’s race, the Soweto Marathon started in 1992, and has since become a historical race and is considered as my sister Lumka Nteta one of the people I have recruited to do this thang, as the second hardest race in Gauteng in terms of route. So no playing around this time like when I did the 10km, which I barely trained for. Registration for the Nike Soweto Marathon opened on Thursday, July 31 on the official race website and you don’t have to be mad like me and register for the 21,1km race, you can register for the 10km. Just Do It because you will feel.
