01 Apr Boyish Glamour
A couple of months ago when I saw behind the scenes SnapChats from Vashtie of her Puma collaboration shoot, I knew I had to have something/s from the collection. Inspired by one of my favourite cities in the world New York City and skate and B-boy subcultures from the ’80s and ’90s, this collection is made up of gold, black, unisex, street and most importantly: versatile pieces.
From dresses paired with sneakers, sweaters worn with pleated midi-skirts to sparkly dresses layered with a varsity jackets; clothing with heritage in sport (sneakers, crew necks, varsity jackets etc) are staples in my wardrobe. When people ask me to describe my style; I always describe it as casual glamour and recently after doing an interview that left me recalling my tomboy days as a tween – boyish glamour.
Wearing a baseball jersey with a pair of shorts (which I am wearing in a slightly tighter fit in comparison to the lookbook images which are styled in a slouchy fit), with a pair of ankle boots (the best boots to invest in… post coming soon on why) instantaneously turns a look that could be considered masculine into a boyishly glamourous look. I describe my style as boyish glamour because whilst I like comfortable, sporty and relaxed; I like nice things; and a little bit of elegance to what I wear… only because I am too lazy to change from day to night.
