2015 | What I learnt…

62015 was rollercoaster ride. Given that I’m afraid of dying on a rollercoaster you can only imagine how my year has been. A lot changed in my personal life, which resulted in me making some terrible decisions and letting in people into my life that were disruptive. At some stage, the mistakes I made had me looking in the mirror at someone I didn’t recognise, but now I know, as my sister once said to me that “people make mistakes, but people aren’t their mistakes.”

Those words resonated with me because I think sometimes people like to fixate on beating themselves up over their mistakes and putting energy into wallowing through their downs, instead of taking that energy and choosing to move forward, doing and knowing better. As Winston Churchill once said “All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes.”

After being lucky enough to travel as much as I did last year, 2015 was almost a dud until I got the opportunity to travel to New York with Pond’s Global. Due to my career and business ambitions, I had to make the decision to sit out of recreational trips like the one my friends took to dream destinations like Mexico and Cuba. It paid off from a business perspective, but kind of left me feeling soulless by the end of the year.

So when the Pond’s Global opportunity came about, the excitement I felt at the thought of getting on a plane with my passport confirmed how important travel is to me. Even going back to somewhere I have been to several times like New York left me inspired because of the change of scenery and momentum.

In summary, over this past year I have learnt that:

  • My energy is really important to me. How I use it and on who is even more important.
  • “Softness is not weakness. It takes courage to stay delicate in a world this cruel.” – Beau Taplin
  • In anything… Work, relationships, friendships, the gym… what you put in is what you get out. A year of focused exertion and effort has shown me this.
  • People make mistakes, but people aren’t their mistakes.
  • Being kind is the easiest thing in the world
  • You can get what you want without tearing other people down
  • Do you…
  • Wearing all white is not that bad if you don’t go near children and don’t let people with full faces of make-up hug you
  • Travelling is incredibly important to me

Any lessons you learnt this year? The comments section is always open … x

I learnt that everything shall pass; especially tough moments when you feel like giving up. I also learnt that it’s okay to look pretty with a bit of make-up and cute heels (I have always shied away from that). But more importantly, don’t hang around people who’s energy you don’t vibe with – there are ‘friends’ that you really do not need in your life and it’s okay to let them go.

      Hi Zethu

Thank you so much for sharing. I love these kinds of conversations because you always realise that everyone is going through their own things and trying to be and do better. Thank you again for sharing x

    I have learnt

1 asking for forgiveness is easier than asking for permission ( take every opportunity)

    2. Forgive others as they can turn around tomorrow and repent while you still holding on to those grudges god doesn’t own a auditing department all are forgiven….. Yes even those who hurt you

3.selfishness is a sign of self discipline

4 the highest energy wins ( you choose which one the good or the bad one)

    5. Eat the whole Dame cake man!!!!!
