What I wore: SA Fashion Week SS 16 Day 2

What I Wore To Fashion WeekI am a fan of collections that are conceptually driven and cohesive, that is why I always find myself reviewing and raving about designers like Marianne Fassler, Suzanne Heyns, Clive Rundle and the capsule collections of up & coming designers forced to, by virtue of the fact that they can only show a certain number of looks to send collections down the runway that are cohesive or visually interesting. I like to walk out of a show with something more to say than “It was pretty… or nice.” I want to be transported somewhere, or to see a point of view from the designer and Day 2 of SA Fashion Week didn’t leave me with any such feelings. I did however, have feelings about what I wore to SA Fashion Week Day 2…

Whilst one might traditionally associate delicate pastel hues with spring and summer, this winter smoky pinks, baby blues, powdery lilacs and faded yellows are bringing a beautiful refined hint of colour to winter fashion. I am personally excited to add some sophisticated colour to my winter wardrobe with these muted hues and this coat from Witchery is everything.

As someone who hardly, dare I say, never wears pink, this coat caught my attention because of its muted candy floss hue, perfect length and fit. I am not sure how, or why, but powdery pastels bring a kind of gentle sophistication to any look… Worn here with a grey turtleneck (I plan to Barbara Streisand my way through winter and live in turtlenecks), a black a-line leather mini and grey socks and heels, this look is a little bit tough, but nice and girly, which I don’t mind at all.

With winter around the corner, socks with heels are the perfect way to take some of your favourite summer heels  into winter, especially when the weather is not quite at the thermals stage, but is somewhat nippy. My top 3 tips if you are a tiny bit nervous about this look is to keep it simple and always aim for balance:

  1. If you want to wear a pair of printed socks do so with a simple pump or solid coloured strappy heel
  2. Slouchy knitted socks in greys, pastels and blacks are perfect for chunky or stacked heels and ankle boots
  3. Don’t be afraid to add some glamour with sparkles, sequins, feathers and frills to your sock game
